Discussion/Business:
1. We got all the paperwork in so we are a student organization. YAY!
2. If you come into 659 to use the space, please sign in on the sign-in sheet so that Lisa can show ppl that we’re using the space.
3. We have a new Rubber Ducky mascot. He sits on the ELN reading bookshelf. Jenny would like him to have a name. Suggestions?
4. People STILL need to sign up for the website. Get a wordpress account and let me know what email you registered with. -Jenny is going to set Jack up an account because Jack is super busy.
5. EWEEK – we were scheduled for Sat again this year.
6. Has anyone gone to any leadership events/speakers lately? Care to share if you have? (Reminder: There’s a leadership speaker series posted on the website for those who want to go.)
7. Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution–And How It Can Renew America is a book by Thomas L. Friedman (author of the World is Flat), proposing that the solutions to global warming and the best method to regain the United States’ economic and political stature in the world is to embrace the clean energy and green technology industries. – Description lifted from Wikipedia. Jack says this is supposed to be amazing – if anyone checks it out let us know.
8. WHERE HAVE ALL THE LEADERS GONE?
And by leaders, we mean everyone. It looks like the meeting every week at 2 different times isn’t working out well. Do we want to try a different meeting scheme? What about meeting on weekends, maybe for Sunday brunch of sorts? We could meet at Squires and all get ABP. We could meet elsewhere and do other food arrangements as well. If that doesn’t work, what about dinners on weeknights? What does everyone think? Reply to the listserv with any more suggestions on how we can get the ball rolling again.
9. Upcoming What do we want to do in terms of an agenda for our meetings? One suggestion is discuss books (like SWAY, there are still copies in 659.) Another suggestion we talked about is maybe having a series of discussions on personal leadership experiences and problems. We could also (and this is a new spur of the moment thought from Jenny) maybe have everyone brainstorm a list of discussion topics for our meetings. (Ex. Today I heard a great interview question – do you think Hitler was a good leader?) We could have everyone think for the week on whatever the next week’s topic is and then come in to meetings to discuss.
Another possibility could be to create a presentation/seminar for a wider audience (maybe the leadership residence program?) about our leadership expereiences/things we’ve learned as leaders/leadership advice/how to get involved in leadership roles. What does everyone think? Again, respond to listserv with comments/suggestions.
That’s all for this week! (Someone take notes tomorrow!)
